| Description | The Alpha set was designed by Richard Garfield and released in August of 1993. This set consists of 295 cards, 74 common, 95 uncommon and 116 rares with 10 lands. Alpha cards have black borders. There is no set symbol for this set. The easiest way to discern an Alpha card is the more rounded corner. The estimated print run was 2,600,000 cards. Cards of note in this set are many, including the Power Nine cards at the top of the heap. Ancestral Recall, Black Lotus, Mox Emerald, Mox Jet, Mox Pearl, Mox Ruby, Mox Sapphire, Timetwister & Time Walk make up the Power Nine. Additionally Dual Lands, Birds of Paradise, Serra Angel, Sol Ring & many other notable cards are found throughout the set. |

Had 4 of this in my deck for early counter spell usage (reserving the original counterspell in my hand). If there is no use for it, I discard it with Force of Will. Very versatile and underrated card. 4 stars because it's actually a pump counterspell.

Extremely underrated card. Only con is that in order to counter the spell, you have to outnumber your opponent in untapped mana. This card allows you to counter a spell, AND forces opponent to tap all available lands and drains their mana pool, thus preventing any spells or abilities from being played later in their turn. Very versatile
