This card can completely throw your opponent off guard and keep him at bay for a while. It's a duress/ravenous rats. Say your opponent has a Lightning Bolt in hand and you have a Phyrexian Negator in play you can remove the card and just let the Fiend sit then and pound the guy with the negator. Works for me :) 5 Stars

excellent card that was played in my 1. 5 monoblack deck almost since this set's release. a turn one or two
"swipe anything other than land card" is an excellent ability. the creature dying and sending the card back turned out to be not as much as a problem as i would have expected. that doesn't mean you don't have to watch for it, just play other cards in your hand if in doubt. right now i'm playing the (as of this writing) new card from the 'champions of kamigawa' set(if i spelled that right) 'distress.' the opponent doesn't get the card back like he would have with killing the 'mesmeric fiend' but i don't get to have a creature that deals damage....which is a big deal to those of you who have played discard decks. in conclusion, worth a hard second look if this baby fits in your deck theme....................
