I was using a RU deck with Niv Mizzet as my general, and using an infinite mana combo, an echo mage, and a twincast, I killed off everyone else in my 5-way game of EDH. I love this card.

I'm a blue/white control player & I absolutely dread this card! Banefire is always in the back of my mind as I construct each deck. Hindering Light won't save my Baneslayer Angels from this bad-dog!

I've pulled two in the last week, these babies have proven very effective. Five stars, no questions asked.

banefire, short for the bane of all control decks incarnate in the form of fire, is our new demon fire. it has all the benifits of demonfire with none of its weeknesses. infact, i believe that it surpasses its predecessor in every way

Not strictly better than Demonfire. Demonfire prevents regeneration and damage prevention where Banefire does not, and both have a condition to be met in order to be "uncounterable". To be fair, I'd rather topdeck a Demonfire than a Banefire, because the Demonfire's uncounterability doesn't depend on me sinking 6+ mana into it.
That being said, Banefire IS good. As with all other burn spells with x in their cost, it gets better the more mana you can sink into it - paying 4 mana for 3 damage is not efficient when you could just cast a Lightning Bolt instead, however, when your deck has run out of steam and you're sitting on a lot of unused lands, this card really shines.
