Nightsky mimic is something of a conundrum. It doesn't really fit into either black or white by itself, but is aggressively costed to fit into either color in a limited deck.
Where this card shines, though is in a deck built around it. In such a deck it becomes a 4/4 (or 7/7 with Edge of the Divinity) attacker third turn. The real question is if there is enough cool stuff in standard to build around it. For the most part, the answer is yes. Stillmoon Cavalier, Tidehallow Sculler, and the aforementioned Edge work well enough. One of the best uses for this card is as a surprise blocker powered up by Unmake or Beckon Apparition!
In the right deck, it's an automatic four-of, but no other deck should even consider it. Like every single card in Magic: the Gathering the Trading Card Game.
