I think the main use of this card is for the life gain from the inevitable board sweeper that's likely to come from having 20-30 saprolings on the board. Sac in response and voila, plant army to sizable life gain. The spore counters for more saprolings is just a bonus.

this guy is great for fast beatdown decks. works good with coat of arms. would be good with alpha status too.

Slow by today's standards, but back in late 94/early 95, Elvish Farmer was a good insurance policy card to have. Not to mention his utility would increase dramatically for people who managed to use Fungal Bloom on him and get away with it (he's not a Fungus creature!). Nice artwork on this one too.

Wrong: this guy is horrible for "fast beatdown"! Waiting 3 turns to get a Saproling isn't "fast", it's awfully slow. You should only run this where it belongs: in a real Fungus deck with loads of Doubling Seasons - and even there it isn't very good: it doesn't even get additional spore counters from Sporesower Thallid :S
My best advice: use Soul Warden or Essence Warden instead, as they can generate life for you without having to kill your army.
