A lot of people bring up using this in straight black but it is also great in a blue counter deck splashed with black and Glimpse the Unthinkable. Just sit there and counter all their best spells to set up the Haunting Echoes. The counters will stall them until you are set up and ready to toss the echoes and a lot of people won't see it coming because they are too busy being annoyed by the constant counters. I know a lot of people talk about using it with Traumatize but trying to keep both of these in a deck could mean too many high casting cost cards if you are playing a non-mana ramping deck in a tournament. If you toss the haunting echoes somewhere between turns seven or eight (assuming you are countering to stall the opponent) you can pitch the echoes and save a crap load of counters once all those cards are pulled out and they are drawing land over and over.

The best anti-deck card designed to date. Multi-tasking on the most severe levels. Highly underrated.

I used to wonder why cards that are almost instantly banned were printed in the first place. Now that I have been playing longer I understand. This may be restricted/banned soon, but who cares! Black is back in full force, and this is just one card that proves it!

this card shouldn't have been made. It can be combined with SO MUCH stuff to just be sick. wizards should have toned this card down, sure it costs 5, but jesus.

Brutal card! Makes people want to cry and break things. Try using w/ millstone/s and discard. The obvious traumatize combo can be a bit expensive in type 2 but is very tempting and can end friendships...worth every penny

this card is a little expensive but i admit it is an amazing card especially for mono black, all mono black decks should have atleast one, this card is so powerful and i personally think it is the best card in type two.

If a deck can splash black and add at least one Haunting Echoes to thier deck, late in the game it can be killer. Of course coupled with Traumatize, it can be downright evil. First turn forest, tap to play fastbond. Play a few lands, Traumatize. Next turn draw, then cast haunting echos. Game over for most decks. Unless the deck has nothing but one of card in their deck.

All black decks should have this, especially discard decks.

Definitely not runnable in all black decks since 5 casting cost is a tad high. Plus if you run black you should either be winning before this card becomes useful or you should be running Extirpate. However if you run Mono-Black Control or a Mill deck that runs black this card is pure gold : - )

Any card that can have such a devastating effect should have some kind of draw back; five mana is really a cheap casting cost for its power. MAGIC IS SUPPOSED TO BE A BALANCED GAME, or else it isn't fun anymore.
