This is what you want when you open Homelands packs, ok? Homelands is one of the best sets in the game. I'm not kidding. Lets start with what is likely amongst the most powerful two-card combos that exists in Legacy. Play Pithing Needle naming Aether Storm. And its blue. Koskun Falls played with Bitterblossom, Bloodghast, Chimeric Idol.. Contamination, Sinkhole, Smallpox, Pox, and Wasteland or Dust Bowl. Is this set starting to sound better? An-Zerrin Ruins. See? Getting better am I right? Juzam Djinn met his match when they did the creature type revision to Aysen Crusader. Aysen Highway. How many white creatures are played in Legacy? Not all that many right? How often do you see 'Plains' ? A lot. Broken Visage is amongst the best removal spells (2-for-1, similar to Ashes To Ashes without the pain). Black Carriage is a 4/4 Trample for 3BB with a sacrifice outlet. Although there are better ways to utilize creatures in your graveyard they wont be typical aggro-decks.. Drudge Spell is one card that works fine by itself which makes regenerating chump blocking Drudge Skeletons, and is an enchantment played for the cost of 1 drudge skeleton. Come on... Why all the hate for Homelands? We're doing pretty well so far. Dry Spell is a weenie board wiper.. for 2 mana, in black. Joven destroys aether vials, and equipment.. on a 3/3 body for 5 he's not bad. Marjhan pings attackers for UU without tapping and can take out as many attackers as your mana pool allows. Mystic Decree plays nice with Moat.. Primal Order is a house in EDH. Another great tim is in this set, Reveka Wizard Savant. Sengir Autocrat used to be played with Hecatomb. Serra Aviary works well in a bird deck as does Soraya The Falconer. Wall Of Kelp is a great token generator.
And minotaurs. But.. they suck.

This set is the most illestly broken set ever. Here in my town of Parma we just recieved it. its the most broken set yet. with the overpowered single colored cards-didgeridoo, cemetary gate, headstone, anaba spiritcrafter, and castle sengir-this set will completely change all environments. How will they conclude the oddessy-homelands block.

This is a good set, and if you're looking to bulk up your collection with not so commonly used cards, then Homelands (as well as Fallen Empires) is a great way to do it. The only minus I really had with this item was the slightly rough condition the box was in, but the art still shows and that saves it.

Though not exactly a powerful set of cards, the Homelands set has a deep backstory and cards that are great fun for casual play. Flavor was a bigger thing when MTG first started, and being able to beat your opponent on turn 1 wasn't the focus. Compared with now, the stories of the newer sets more and more contrived and Magic lost some of its appeal for older casual players.
Like most sets though, there usually is one or two standouts that continue to see play in Vintage after they've been rotated out of standard. For Homelands it's Merchant Scroll, which was in the deck used by I think all 8 finalists in the 2008 WotC Vintage Championships. The reason being most people play blue in Vintage (due to Ancestral Recall, Time Walk, etc) and this card gives blue tutoring which for the most part it does not have.

I agree with the reviewers that mentioned the set's art and flavor text. Homelands has a fascinating story and while a lot of the cards tend to be overcosted and underpowered there are still some gems. Ihsan's Shade is a great moderate strength black card and it's an uncommon to boot! Still, all but the collector would best be served by grabbing cheap singles of the better cards in this set.

Yeah, . . . there are reasons you might buy a box other than power. Homelands is one of the top five sets of all time in terms of flavor, and has one of the most interesting backstories and a lot of very good artwork. It has been out of print for a very long time and so the cards have collector value. When they stop making Magic one day, everyone will be glad they have even cards like Leaping Lizard and Faerie Noble.

Homelands is the worst magic set known to mankind other than portal and that is just because portal is illegal in tournaments. Homelands has no cards that are any good. In my eight years of playing magic the gathering, from the hundreds of decks that I have built and played, I have never put a single homelands card in any of my decks. In fact, I don't even remember playing against any homelands cards. I see thousands of them litering every common box in exsistance but yet no one plays them. Anyhow This Booster Box would make a great present for someone you dont like, or for someone who needs some other than firewood to burn in thier fireplace. Other than that I really can't think of any reason why you would ever buy a booster box of Homelands. Happy Shopping!!!

Thats why they made a card that makes you bury all cards from the Homelands expansion. This set does suck.
