One of the best Counters in any color and maybe the best outside of blue. Five Damage is enough to make people think twice about almost any spell, and a good trade if they take the damage. Think would you spend BB to counter a spell? yes. Would you spend BB to make your opponent lose five life? yes. it's win win. I love this card.

I think I'm going to start to run 3 in my faerie/rogue aggro deck because it suffers so badly from getting burned to death.

Now this is really just too good, cause if you think about it, a r/b damage and discard deck is inifitely much better with this little mixer, because now you can posiibly choose what stays on or off the field, even if you don't have spell to blow a creature away. It also works with a millstone deck to, but its alittle less abusive in that enviroment. The only thing that makes this card alittle weak, is life gain decks, but thankfully they aren't played in a wide extent or very effectively in most cases.

Well, i know ill get flak for this but i really disagree with giving this card a good rating. true, bb for 5 life or bb for counterspell is great, but usually unless your just trying to annoy your opponent, counterspells are for stopping cards you NEED to be countered. if you give the opponent the option, they probably can weigh out the benefits of not getting the spell countered, and will choose depending on the situation. so during most games, this card usually reads: BB; Instant; Target spell costs 5 life in addition to its other costs. and thats not that great. one black mana would have really made this card worth it. HOWEVER- if played very late-game, it can be good; but i play counterspells early and never give the opponent the chance to get started.
