DescriptionThe Alpha set was designed by Richard Garfield and released in August of 1993.  This set consists of 295 cards, 74 common, 95 uncommon and 116 rares with 10 lands.  Alpha cards have black borders.  There is no set symbol for this set.  The easiest way to discern an Alpha card is the more rounded corner.   The estimated print run was 2,600,000 cards.

Cards of note in this set are many, including the Power Nine cards at the top of the heap. Ancestral Recall, Black Lotus, Mox Emerald, Mox Jet, Mox Pearl, Mox Ruby, Mox Sapphire, Timetwister & Time Walk make up the Power Nine.  Additionally Dual Lands, Birds of Paradise, Serra Angel, Sol Ring & many other notable cards are found throughout the set.

Regret selling mine. Love it. Seat of synod? REALLY???? The fact that its an artifact land is what makes it suck ARTARD. The beauty of the MOX Is... Any land and mox. Tolarian academy is the only thing i see making seat of synod worth anything. Or I can play A mox sapphire and have three blue to play with 1st turn. Can you say Dissipate

Moxen = average. Fyndhorn Elder/ Dark Ritual well better. Yes I'm joking and yes it's good.

THIS IS AWESOME! The mox is totally great against any deck. You're an idiot if you don't think this card is good. For the alpha one, I can't believe they got their hands on an excellent plus. That's frickin' crazy unless it was one of those cards with a wicked tight sealed hardcase. It's a certain type of case where they seal it and it has info on it like what edition it's from and it's condition. It reminds me more of a frame than a case. I was on ebay once and a guy had a black lotus in one of those and because of it it was in mint condition. It sold for like $2,000.

I agree.... an amazing card. Can't imagine playing when there were no restrictions on having 4 of these babies in your deck. (drool)
