At first glance, this seems like a "Ho-hum" card. +2/+2 for one. Other cards have done it, so it's nothing special. But you can play this card when you're completely tapped! Imagine an opponent notices you're all tapped out, and you just have a little 1/1 Elvish Skysweeper on the board while he's got his 2/2 Grizzly Bear. He figures you can't do anything and attacks, then you block with your elf, then tap the elf for convoke and bring out a Gather Courage. Similar things happen when you're tapped out and a black mage tries to Last Gasp your Selesnya Guildmage. Tap that Guildmage, play your Gather Courage, and be proud. A truely effective surprise card.
