If nothing else it has one of the coolest pictures Ive seen in a while on a magic card, I love it! Good card all in all, but nowadays you cant spit in the air without it landing on an overpowered green beatstick of this caliber, so its nothing out of the ordinary Id say.

Khalni Hydra is easy to cast on turn 3 with Llanowar Elves/Arbor Elf and Greenweaver Druid/Joraga Treespeaker/Elvish Archdruid/Mul Daya Channelers. Same thing with Terra Stomper, actually, but the Hydra works better with Primalcrux and Ancient Ooze, not to mention that it is just plain awesome, and potentially free later in the game (especially after an Avenger of Zendikar, a multi-kicked Wolfbriar Elemental, a few turns with an Ant Queen, or just your everyday, average swarm of elves). Getting your board wiped before you cast it hurts more than with Terra Stomper. However, in the situation of a post-cast board-wipe, with the mana you save on its cost, you might be able to Momentous Fall in response, gaining 8 life and drawing 8 cards, which is nothing to frown about, really. Unless you deck yourself, of course.

But yeah, Khalni Hydra may mark the grand return of Stompy decks to the Type-II environment. I'm not going to get my hopes up, but it shouldn't be too hard (or expensive, all things in Type-II considered) to build a deck that regularly drops an 8/8 trampler on turn 3.

I was talking to my friend about this card the other day. With a pretty easy combo you can have this guy out on turn four. Its a pretty easy combo, and you don't have to spend any actual mana to cast him. To have this guy out there so soon is pretty awesome.
