Thank you for re-printing it back into M11. This card should cause a bit of havoc. And yes, any experienced player would know to have extra black mana laying around to pump it right away once you have it out on the battlefield. I need two more of these for my future mono black deck.

One of the best black creature cards in the game. Best fit for mono black decks. Pack 4 of these in your deck.

reviewers 21-24, you guys are morons, first of all, how on earth can you think that singir vampire or the champion is better than the shade?!? the shade has much more good points than the vampire. a 2/1 for 2, i dont care what the vamire does, this thing can win on turn six with the help of a few chainers edicts(da bomb). tell me, can singer vampire do that? and sorceres queen guy, what are you thinking? were mainly talking about how good it is in type 2. sure, there are a few answers, but i personally think that it can be one of the best black creatures printed. and after i pump, you cant make it a 0/2 because it changes the numbers, the actual printed numbers!!! learn the rules before you post things. it makes you look like an idiot.

Ok, reviewer 9 and 23, computer gamers have a word to describe you in the world of magic. nOOb!
First of all, the shade can be played in type 2, making all the cards you mentioned invalid. Second of all, every single card you mentioned can be killed almost as easily as the shade. Icy, wall of shadows, royal assassin, those can all get killed in one card just like the shade. After those are dead cast a chainers edict, and the pesky wisp is gone too. My recommendation: play in some DCI sanctioned tournaments and learn what's good... people rarely use the cards you mentioned for type 1 anyways

This card rocks, i got 1 foil one and use it in a black-white deck. I have plenty of mana to pump it so it kicks ass, ppl who say it can easily be killed r losers and have no idea in the potential that shades have.

Reveiwer #9 obviously doesn't know a classic card when he sees one. Whoever plays a Shade when he can't pump it on the same turn is stupid (obviously what reviewer 9 does). You almost NEVER want to cast Nantuko Shade and not have anymore mana to pump it so that it's at LEAST a 5/4. Being a staple of a tier 1 Type 1 deck, Suicide Black, it gets 5 stars.

This card is great! The ability to grow and that extra boost of power allow it to take an edge early and can be a great finisher. The only drawback is an early answer could throw off the entire thing. but, being a 3rd turn 5/4 it should be able to trounce all over the opposition. A second turn shade is one of the best things you can get. it is definately the best creature in torment and possibly the best in the OBC. if you play black, use this card and you can win.

Nantuko Shade is a great card, period.
A reply for the person talking about making one a 0/2 with his Sorceress Queen... Dude, you don't even know how your own Sorceress Queen works!!! It makes it as if the numbers in the corner read 0/2... abilities afterward are not affected by the Sorceress Queen... Example... tap 5 black into the Shade, he becomes a 7/6 ... target it with Sorceress Queen and it becomes a 5/7!! Learn the rules dude!

i think this is one of the best shade's i've ever seen. 2 mana for a 2/1 off the bat is not that bad ( 2/2 could be better....) but then throw in its growing ability and its great, being that most shades go for 4 mana for a 1/1 with growing ability so its a bargin.

really this card is quite a good buy, can easily become a huge creature, don't take #9's review to seriously. I myself have a tournament winning shade deck and this card happens to be in there, so if your making a shade deck, buy it, if you just like the idea of pumping it up, buy it, if u just like the art work, then buy it.

sorceress queen guy - i have a nantuko shade & 6 swamps & cabal coffers. i pump my shade 6 times with the coffers: if u make it a 0/2 i still have 4 mana to play dark rit or bubbling muck etc to pump it many more times, if u don't make it 0/2 then i don't pump it any more: u take much damage either way. if i have 2 cabal coffers, then i just use one of them, and if u make the shade tiny, i use the other. don't get me wrong; sorceress queen is a very, very good card. but nantuko shade is too.

I don't know whats wrong with Reviewer #9 one damage and its dead well you can pump it up to survive did you even know what the card does? Shade weak and a wuss? How about that Will-o-the Wisp at 0/1? You can't regenerate a countered creature(I think) and i know you canregenerate a sacrificed creature so Chainer's Edict would kill it. Again wuss deck? My wussy 2/1 Nantuko Shade that gets +1/+1 for each black mana looks pretty big compared to that 0/1 Will-o-the Wisp.Best creature in the Oddessey block.

well duh its a 2/1- for 2 mana thats not really awful... its the fact that its pumpable. play a lighting bolt- then pump it with 3 and its not dead. ok, ok, a turn 2 bolt would kill it... but if you got four- youre gonna have to deal with some more. and a black deck will probably kill your stupid sorceress queen anyway. btw- i dont even HAVE a shade- and im just started on making a black deck, but if i could choose a card to have- itd be this one (...or birds of paradise...)

Defenitely the best card in the set. With all the power that black has received in torment, Nantunko shade should kill opponents really fast and is defenitly the best creature in the set.

Nantuko Shade is extremely good because it can cause a lot of damage very early in the game. Of course, you wouldn't pump it if you need to use the mana for something else, but the potential that this thing has is just enormous.

@Jansen: I don't know if you've noticed it, but just because you're running a couple of Nantuko Shades in your black deck, it doesn't mean that there isn't room for Riever Demon or other big fatties. Also, while you're putting lands onto the battlefield and waiting to be able to cast that big fatty of yours, you might as well put that mana to use instead of letting it go unspent - and pumping Nantuko Shade is a great way of getting rid of unspent mana (Like, for example, say you've got 6 Swamps and a Nantuko Shade on the 'field and you're waiting to cast a 7-mana Demon; you might as well go ahead and attack with the Shade and pump it with your 6 mana, since you otherwise weren't gonna spend it anyway).

All mono black decks should run this if able. The amount of damage this can deal quickly adds up, and underestimating the Shade is definitely a mistake. Sure, it can be killed by Lightning Bolt & other burn spells, but the same goes for Ob Nixilis, not to mention that Nantuko Shade is only a 2-mana drop - if your opponents wastes their burn spells on your cheap threats, then they're doomed once you start casting your fatties.

incredibly powerful for fast kill decks. Great for late game use, and is cheap.

The Reson I love this is how efficient it is with the mana. Your lucky to get a 2/2 with black without paying at least 3. yes it's a 2/1 but you have enough mana to make it a 4/3. even if they have a burn card in their hand theyid have to wast it on your shade, and then have almost nothing to kill a bigger thing you get out like wretched anurid, or a accursed centaur

I feel so stupid. I was at the local gathering center and I pulled one of these expensive and highly playable cards. I did not know at the time that it was a freakin' $** card. I saw how great it was and I knew that I could get something neat for it. So I traded it away for a Jareth, Leonine Titan and an Aggrivated Assault. Somebody please slap my into submission now.

Doubtless a very good card. But it isn't the best in the set. I would have to say the best card is Singir Vampire. 4/4 5 mana flying. If a creature delt damage by Singir Vampire goes to the graveyard this turn, put a +1/+1 counter on Singir Vampire. But the nantuko shade is very good. The fact that it is pumpable is helpful, no doubt, but there is always a way to kill it. Like I said before, a good card, but not the best.

I must admit, this is a very good card. But not great. There are better cards in the set. Take Singir Vampire for instance. 5 mana for a 4/4 flying Whenever a creature delt damage by Singir Vampire this turn is but into a graveyard, put a +1/+1 counter on Singir Vampire. That's an amazing card. I have them in my decks. Sure, Natuko Shade is a good card, but it's just a 2/1. Pump it up all you want, but It's not going to get that big unless you have the perfect combination of cards. Direct damage it on your opponents turn and they use all available mana for that turn pumping up their Nantuko Shade just to save it. Then direct damage it on your turn. It's dead.

Nantuko shade is not good cards because you have to pay more manas to make it big. Why you wouldnt just put out already big creatures for using good manas for better spells?

At first I was like this sucks!! BUT, they have one kick butt shade that is super good and that is nirkana revenent, its a pretty good shade.

This is definitely a good card, but I also think it is a little over-rated and a little over-priced. But I really just want to comment on how sad it is that so many people feel the need to insult anyone whose opinion differs from their own. Everyone likes different styles of gameplay. You will have better luck making your point and convincing others if you put forth a logical, objective argument instead of just calling people stupid because they don't share your opinion.

Laquatus's champion is alot better than Nantuko shade. More mana cost, but at least it has an awesome ability and regen for only B! I don't even see why this card costs so much. It can be easily destroyed.

Ok, ok, ok. i hear all this rambling about how it is way too weak and can die right off the bat. I also KNOW that for 2 mana, its worth it. Off the top of my head i cant think of another shade that is so cheap. And if you think a sorcoress queen can zap it to 0/2, obviously you dont understand the queens abilities. The +1/+1's it gets cant be screwed with by anything, not even those spore things, cuz they aint counters, but they aint base stats either, so queen is helpless against em. Well, im rambling on now. One way or another, its certainly a decent card, it just has to fit your playing style.

oooooo, look at all of u defending a stupid shade and busting on my sorceress queen and my will-o-the-wisp. first of all, what i mean by my willow the wisp is i can block the stupid shade cuz it doesnt have trample, and u can pump it up all u want it doesnt matter lol. Second of all, i dont see why ur assuming that a black deck would kill my socresses queen so easily. im talkin about those morons who pump it up all the way and then attack, i can make it a 0/2. Also! i can just block the stupid shade with my wall of shadows, pump it up allll u want! annnd, just to throw something at ur face, i can allways just tap the stupiid thing with my icy manipulator, NOW WUT!? orr ill just tap maze of ith. and laaaastley, if that lil thing even tries to attack me, ill just tap my royal assasin- DEAD. And besides, i also play a shades deck and i can pump mine up to block the nantuko lol. All im sayng is its nothing SUPER, it dies juuust as easy as any other pathetic creature, and it having ONE toughness doesnt help. I mean really i use this card in my deck and its good but its nothing to crap ur pants about. so why dont u juzt go trade somethin for ur lil nantuko fruit-cake. * Reviewer # 9*

this card is way too overated. 1 damage and its dead! first turn i get out my will-o-the-wisp and im set for the whole game.they can counter it,lighting bolt it,use that card that makes them sacrifice a creature and dozens of other stuff. if ur playing a wuss deck then yeah but a 2/1 creature isnt nearly close to a threat to me.and besides i don care if its a 100/100 flying, trample, first strike, regenerate creature,i tap my sorceress queen and its a puny little 0/2.Anyway,this creature is weak and a wuss.(< plays shades n has 4 in his deck...but im just sayn its a frekin 2/1!! cmon now)
