Tolarian Academy is the reason many of my Vintage friends run a Strip Mine (restricted) & at least 1 Wasteland.

Tolarian Academy is hands-down the most powerful land ever printed, but pairing it with Palinchron to Stroke/Blaze someone to death is just a weak interbreeding of two broken deck types -- namely, the mana engine that uses Tolarian Academy and Mind Over Matter, and the mana engine that uses High Tide and Palinchron. When using Palinchron, please use and respect High Tide as the way to go and don't throw around 4 Sapphire Medallions.

Combine this with Mycosynth Lattice and you have the ultimate combo. The latice makes pumpable spells of any color usable with blue mana, and suddenly all your lands, enchantments, and creatures are all adding to artifact. Can we say rolling thunder for insane amounts to kill multiple opponents in one cast? It's just too expensive for my blood.

Maybe it's Wizard's biggest mistake. Put simply, because it's the greatest land in Magic universe. It's a pity they deal with powerful cards by restricting them, not by printing equally powerful cards to contend with it.

yes this is one of the best lands.......very evil....... but how can anyone say its the best when it requires many other cards to be powerful? A stand alone land by itself should be judged at the most POWERFUL >>> dual lands ROCK !!! strip mine....good by academy! Library of Alexandria is called the best card in magic by the creator, Rich Garfield. This is due to the fact it produces mana 1ST TURN OUT - and lets you cheat more or less by spending nothing and drawing cards **Just a side note i have made a first turn kill decks out of the T Academy and I have given it 5 stars!!

a true five star card. agreed with the other reviewer in that it should be the 'power 10.' but really wanted to just mention that i love the artwork and it would have been kool if WOTC had released a foil version of this card like they did with 'gaea's cradle'..........

Arguably the most powerful land in Magic. This land was so powerful that it got restricted in type I and almost got banned. The combination of cheap casting cost artifact producing mana and Tolarian Academy ensures players especially those who are using blue to be able to generate loads of mana in just a few turns. Time will come that this card would take its place in the Power cards. Power 10 anyone?

This is a good card, but high tide negates the need for tolarian academy when you want infinite mana. Just wait until you have 2 high tides and 1 palinchron in your hand plus 4 islands in play.
Cast 1 high tide then tap an island for 2 blue using one to cast the second high tide. Then tap the last two islands for 3 blue each and cast palinchron untapping all the lands. Tap all the islands and use four mana to return palinchron to your hand. You will still have 8 blue mana left. Cast palinchron again and guess what? You untap all 4 islands again. Just repeat this gaining 1 blue mana each time until your opponent falls asleep. Then, go get some munchies, watch a movie, and when he (or she) wakes up, inform them that you did it a trillion times while they slept. Then use the mana for whatever you feel like.

who at MAGIC would say this is bad? Tolarian Academy is the BEST CARD EVER MADE! It is so insane that you can get in a good deck almost 100 mana in 2 or 3 turns. NO collection is complete without one-its more useful than even black lotus

High Tide? Did you bother to read the combo? High Tide is useless in the infinite mana combo.

I will let you in on a secret that makes this the best land in the game. First you need 1 Tolarian Acadamy, next you need 4 Sapphire Medallions, finally you need 1 Palinchron. When you have all five cards on the playing field you will have unlimited manna (blue). Just keep returning the Palinchron to your hand and untapping 7 lands. Bringing him back into the playing field for 4 manna because of the sapphire medallions and so on and so forth. It makes blue/red decks unstoppable because a crappy blaze can now kill a person that has over 1 million life!

This is a great card for casual play. With the great number of artifacts with 0, 1, or 2 casting cost, you can quickly generate plenty of mana. This is also a good card for Type 1 players playing plenty of artifacts, even if the deck isn't bult around the card. This is probably one of the strongest non-basic lands ever printed, and it's bannings in most formats is an obvious indicator of it's sheer power. Works great with Mind over Matter.

The worst card ever. Not only is it cheap, Magic themselves admitted it was a mistake. I do not hold any respect for people who win a game because they were able to throw out creatures quick with this land. Boo for it.
