It's not about being a dedicated beater. It's a multiland that also breaks a stalemate or topdeck situation in your favor and wins you games - and which can't be counterspelled. It's a great 1st turn drop for a control deck since you aren't going to cast anything that turn anyway.

Sure treetop village has a cheaper activation cost but this thing beats for 4 in the sky with vigilance, and fixes. Ridiculous.
They strapped an activated Serra Angel on to Coastal Tower.
Control can arm themselves with more spells and forgo using slots on something like Sphinx of Jwar Isle. Why aren't these manlands 10 yet?
